Common Knowledge images explore the relationship between the natural environment and what has been put in place by the generations that settled in western Canada. Decisions made by individuals result in enduring structures and landscapes that affect how people and places thrive. Strong traditions of individualism, available resources, and various design theories have influenced the choices. Inhibited or inspired by this transformed geography, it is what we have in common.
Having lived and travelled throughout “the west”, my interest is in what provides a sense of place, of belonging, to its’ inhabitants, many of whom have arrived from somewhere else.
